A Generation Xer's caregiving journey

The touch tone phone battle of 1996

Touch tone phone on rotary

Since we have been busy with holiday preparations. I have decided to reflect back on Christmas past when the Touch tone phone battle of 1996 occurred.

Before I came home from college for good, I sent a touch tone phone down to my Grandmother and Great-Grandmother for Mother’s Day. I knew that communicating with companies was becoming more and more difficult.

When I did come home, Grandma gave the phone back to me saying that I would need it for my apartment (she was right, but that wasn’t the point). Eventually Grandma had no choice but to concede when my uncle also got a touch tone phone for my Great-Grandmother.

Now I’m worried about the switch to digital cable, when Grandma will not be able to watch her shows with the antenna anymore. Help me please to survive through this.
