A Generation Xer's caregiving journey

Grandmother, what do I call thee

A while ago, I wrote a post on how I addressed my Grandmother.

Of course there are grandmothers who preferred to be called something else entirely.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been watching Arrested Development non stop, thanks to an early birthday present.

For example, I can’t seem to get out of my head as how and why the matriarch of Arrested Development, Lucille is addressed by her grandchildren as “Gangy.”

Sometimes, I’ve gone off track and call Gram “Lady”. There was a cartoon short in the 90’s that was a part of the Animaniacs TV show. The little girl refused to call her mother “Mommy”, ┬áinstead calling her “Lady.” The reference is near the 30 second mark.

Has TV and/or the media  influenced what you call your grandparent or parent? Sound off in the comments.
